What are Registration Categories?
Registration Categories are the first step your attendees will select from during the registration process. Users will go through the registration in their selected category (e.g. Attendee) and purchase tickets that are assigned to that category. The default categories available are: Attendee, Sponsor, Exhibitor, and Speaker.
Smaller events tend to not need multiple categories and will instead group all tickets into one generic category.
Larger events can create and manage multiple categories and make full use of PheedLoop’s registration system. It is common for these events to rename the default categories to fit with their branding.
Common examples of unique categories include:
- Member and Non-Member categorizations
- VIP
- In Person Attendance
- Virtual Attendance

Why should I have multiple Registration Categories?
Having multiple registration categories will organize the registration process between attendees and various members of your event. For example, you may want to display Exhibitor specific tickets such as trade show passes into a separate category from attendees. If both sets of tickets are in the same category, this will likely cause confusion among them and result in incorrect purchases.
Another reason to use multiple categories is to regulate what pricing options are available between registrants. For example, members often receive reduced pricing compared to non members. By creating a special category for member pricing, event organizers can share access to that category without allowing non members to purchase member based tickets.
What are Ticket Types?
Ticket Types are what registrants purchase to be able to attend your event. Having different types of tickets allows your organization to customize purchase options for your events based on price, description, information collected, etc.
Common examples of Tickets include:
- Day Passes and Full Conference Passes
- Special Event Passes, such as dinner passes
- Student tickets
- Early bird and regularly-priced passes

Quick Tips
We recommend starting off with the categories first before creating your ticket types. This is mainly because, for tickets to be assigned, the categories need to be created as a prerequisite.
